Using Character Worksheets by =bekkia:iconbekkia:

The following is a character profile worksheet. Before I set you loose on it, I need to give you a word of caution. This profile sheet is exhaustive. You don't really need to have all this information down, nor does it need to come across in the writing. There are some famous writers that never describe their characters' outward appearance, whereas with others, it's the first thing you "see".

Resist the urge to spill all the information you have at once in your story. As with getting to know real people, getting to know a character should be gradual. No one walks up to you and give you their life story immediately, at least they don't usually.  This is why we have character development, which is often best portrayed through the actions of the character and the interactions the have with other characters, and how these change over time. These changes don't need to be permanent or long lasting, but they need to be there in order to create a dynamic character.

The opposite of a dynamic character is a static character. A static character does not learn or change; they stay the same throughout the story. These characters have their place, but that's not usually what you'll be going for. A pitfall with these worksheets is to adhere to them strictly throughout the story. This can make characters woefully static when they shouldn't be.

Most of all, remember that the word of the worksheet is not law. It's a brainstorming tool or an organizer. Don't put yourself in a box.

Now a note on this particular worksheet: You don't need to fill out every box. Heck, delete half of them. I usually do. This is my own personal worksheet I've compiled over the years, so feel free to add or subtract anything you want.

We write (to express) ourselves through others... maybe because we're too afraid to express ourselves as ourselves... writing helps us to determine our true motives, dreams, and fears.- =illuminara

I was just thinking to myself yesterday that I needed a character sheet... ask the universe, and Bekkia delivers. XD

I've never taken to using character sheets unless for an RPG, in which case I go nuts and I have one I personally use for that. I don't know... for writing, making a character sheet just kills the story, for me. Though this is a good sheet, for me to fill out something like this would just kill the drive I have to write that character--I write to discover and create.

Now, for editing and making a non-crappy first draft, whole new story. Then I use character sheets. I have one or two I prefer myself, much simpler than yours, but they work for me to hold the information I need. :D It's always interesting to take a look at how other people do things, though.

Hey, however works best for you. I tried to do it in a way that wasn't like "this is how I do it". But it depends on the story for me. I'm doing these for one of my NaNos, but not the other. (yes, I'm doing plural)

I love these things!!! They're so much fun. I'm such a nerd. :D
